1、Application background

The system is used to measure the length of the cut billet. According to the associated data measured, the length of the billet is then re-calculated by its software/application, and the billet length is then fed back to the cutter or cutting control system for correction/recalibration that can help verify fixed-length cutting system about the cutting precision/accuracy of the fixed measuring gauge, as a result greatly reduce the labor time, effort and cost.

2、operating principle

The system uses 2 sets of laser ranging sensors to measure/acquire the distance from one sensor to either end of the billet (see the Figure below for reference). Two laser ranging sensors are mounted on the lever pendulum to measure the lengths both at the time.

The system transmits the accurately measured distance to the laser length measuring control cabinet in the cutting chamber, and the data is processed by the billet laser length measuring system software and shown in the operation terminal/display as well as to the operators or cutting control system for reference/direction on fixed length cutting operations.

The schematic diagram of the length measurement of the billet is as follows:

Length of billet can be measured and acquired via the equation t=L-(L1+L2)

t: the length of the billet to be measured;

L1: distance measured by one sensor at one end;

L2: distance measured by the other sensor at the other end;

L: The distance between the two measuring sensors (this value/distance is verified and calibrated by standard calibrated gage/equipment).
